About The Authors
Joseph Dituri, PhD, CDR, U.S. Navy (retired)
Dr. Joseph Dituri has extensive technical and operational experience in every facet of the research, instruction, and undersea realm from saturation diving, submersible design and operations to system certification. After retiring from 28 years of active service in the United States Navy, he earned a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering with research areas of interest that include life support equipment design, high carbon dioxide environments as well as hyperbaric and hypobaric medicine. He is a contributing author to Hyperbaric Medical Practice (4th edition), the author of numerous diver-training manuals, a co-author of the book Tao of Survival Underwater, and the Navy Diving Manual.
Dr. Dituri is the owner of a U.S. Patent that pre-warns divers and astronauts before they have symptoms of oxidative stress, hypercapnic stress, and decompressive stress. Currently, he serves as Assistant Vice President for Veteran’s Clinical Research at the University of South Florida where he helps search for a cure for veterans with Traumatic Brain Injury.
Jason Sonners, DC, PhD
Dr. Jason Sonners, holding a Doctor of Chiropractic degree, has further distinguished himself with a Diplomate of the Chiropractic Board of Clinical Nutrition (DCBCN) and a Diplomate of the International Board of Applied Kinesiology (DIBAK). Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in molecular biology with a concentration in regenerative medicine at the University of Miami, School of Medicine. He serves on the board and faculty of several prestigious organizations, including the International Hyperbaric Association (IHA), the International Board of Undersea Medicine (IBUM), and the Medical Academy of Pediatric Special Needs (MedMaps). Through these roles, he lectures at functional medicine conferences nationwide and certifies doctors and technicians in hyperbaric medicine.
